Healthy Vision Month was established by National Eye Institute (NEI) in May 2003 to raise awareness of vision care as a health priority for the nation. Coast2Coast Rx encourages consumers to find out more about this important initiative.

Unwanted, unused, or expired prescriptions can be deposited at many local sheriff’s departments and community sites across the country from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Consumers nationwide can search for their closest secure drop-off site by visiting the Collection Site Locator that the DEA has provided. Coast2Coast Rx was busy this weekend in San Diego, raising awareness for its prescription discount card program and distributing the card to the community. On April 21, Coast2Coast helped support Access to Independence at its annual benefit gala, a nonprofit organization that provides programs and services to individuals with disabilities and promotes options that empower them to choose and maintain their own lifestyles.

Like many organizations that promote independence and self-sufficiency, Access to Independence helps its consumers prepare for and secure gainful employment, a critical function as statistics show that people with disabilities experience disproportionate employment rates. According to Access to Independence, the unemployment rate for individuals with disabilities in California has been more than 74 percent. On Sunday, April 22, representatives will distribute the free cards starting two hours before the first pitch.
